Noachide Law #3: Respect for Human Life

Written on Av 13, 5781

The obligation to have respect for human life is the third noachide law.
It is an obligation to, in general, abide by CDC and local rules regarding diseases, and to get vaccinated for them unless the vaccine will harm the person getting it.
It is forbidden to murder someone.
It is forbidden to assault someone, though if it is done with permission (e.g. boxing) it depends on one's rav.
It is forbidden to harm someone through speech, by insulting them, embarrasing them, calling them by a derogatory name (unless there is absolutely no harm done by using the derogatory name), asking them regarding a matter you know they are not knowledgable in, asking them about the details of a product if you have no intention of purchasing it, refer them to someone for assistance who cannot assist them, lying to them if harm is done by the lie, selling damaged goods without identifying the damage, offering a gift you are aware will not be accepted, rebuking them such that they will feel hurt, etc.
It is forbidden in general to wake someone up without permission.
It is forbidden to speak lashon hara or rechilus (besides the many exceptions), the laws of which are so detailed that I will not discuss them here.
